Life ain't nothin' but a monthly payment!

This was the advice that I received ten years ago from the mortgage company's president as I signed my 30 year mortgage contract.  He sat in his big leather chair with his neatly smoothed strands of hair parted to the side.  I stared blankly and nodded appropriately when necessary, but inside, I was scared to death!  Single mother, new job, car payments, utilities, CREDIT CARDS, all the "APPLE PIE/ AMERICAN LIFE" stuff that we are supposed to get when we are adults in the U. S.

Since then, graduate of the 2007 class of the MOL program, I have learned some very valuable lessons.  First of all, he was right, not just about the payments, but also about life in general.  It is a "one step at a time" procedure that you must go through whether you like it or not.  I will admit that this has not always been easy for me, and I still struggle with it.  (I'll admit that I'm spoiled, ok.)  So when you study all night long or stay in the WIN Center so long they think you're an employee, only to find out that your test was cancelled or the paper wasn't due until next month, don't get angry, think of it as DISCIPLINE!!  You had to do it, and you put forth a lot of effort, but just like losing weight, you keep at it, cut back on sweets, no more second and third helpings, work out, and before you know it, you've reached your goal! (Ok, maybe one cookie, ;})

Second thing, stay focused on the big prize, not the incidental, inconsequential, useless, time-consuming things that waste precious time.  It's what the ole' folks call "swallowing an elephant and choking on a gnat!" If you can do something about life's problems, just do it, if not, then let it go and keep moving forward!  How much Grecian Formula and Miss Clairol are you going to use before you realize that you can't take it with you, you can't make it over night, and it really isn't all that serious!  This too shall pass...all problems do eventually, just like good times.

Think of how we are at birth, tiny and helpless, totally dependent on our loved ones...they don't make us get jobs or clean the dishes, do they?  Of course not!  We develop in tiny ways each day, growing in all directions, and before you know it, you're grown and going through the paces of life.

...and waiting for that monthly student loan payment to arrive!

Stay cool and be real, always!
