TAU 2008

Dear Campus Community,

The 2008 TAU has been posted on current students/student life. Now that the semester is drawing to a rapid close, I hope you will take the time to read it. It contains some stories, some essays, and some poems. All have been written by Lourdes students, staff, or faculty. There is a great diversity of theme, so there should be something satisfying for everyone.

The TAU is published every spring by the Language and Literature Department. We accept manuscripts at the beginning of second semester, and we publish during National Poetry Month (April). If you like to write, think about submitting next year.

If you would like to discuss any of the readings, add your comments here. We can have a kind of on-line book club going.

Enjoy,

Nancy

Let the photo shoots begin

The first week of photo shoots begins today. A total of 20 esteemed faculty will have their photos taken today. Feel free to stop by and watch your faculty pose for the camera. We are in SJH 110 from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. today.

Tomorrow, we will begin taking photos of those students who volunteered. Remember, if you volunteer, you get a gift certificate to the book store.

Share your stories about your favorite instructors.

Catch you later.

Commencement Is Coming

Commencement is coming and with it summer session. Are you attending classes in summer?

Have you checked out the virtual wall at lourdes.edu/wall for the class gift campaign? It's a fun place for those undergraduate and graduate students who are graduating to show their school pride, network with other classmates and virtually market Lourdes!

Lourdes decided to change how we advertise summer session this year. We decided to market to students who are away at college in the Columbus and Cleveland area. In addition, we put together (through the assistance of our great marketing firm) some low-cost local radio and television ads.

The message: during the summer, take that general education course you need to take.

What are your thoughts?

We are currently working on upgrading our website. That should hopefully occur during the summer months. So make sure to check out lourdes.edu.

Also – a question for students. How do you prefer to read the student newspaper, online on lourdes.edu or as news snippets on lourdesworld.com?

Finally, don't forget to check the President's Blog while he is in Washington, D.C. for the address by Pope Benedict XVI.

LourdesWorld.com

LourdesWorld .com is only 83 days old, yet it has definitely proved its worth.

"LW," as we in College Relations lovingly refer to it, was created as an extension of Lourdes College. We are a community committed to our Franciscan values of learning, reverence and service.

LW allows the Lourdes community - students, alumni, faculty, staff and others - to communicate and share their thoughts, ideas and experiences. We chose the name "LourdesWorld " because we are not exclusive - but inclusive. Those that visit and contribute to LW represent a world of people, ideas and beliefs.

To date, there have been 3,251 visits and 10,866 pageviews at LW. Our blogs have been the most popular stop. It should also be noted that 47.37% of our hits have been from new visitors and users spend an average time of 2 minutes and 58 seconds on the site.

As you continue visiting LW, please be mindful of our Franciscan values and our disclaimer:

The opinions expressed by our bloggers and by those providing comments are theirs alone, and do not reflect the opinions of Lourdes College or our employees.

With that in mind, we invite you to continue visiting and sharing your views on LourdesWorld .com.

Getting ready for fall semester

College Relations has been abuzz the last few weeks getting ready for fall semester.

If you are a new student, I probably saw you at the Get in the Game New Student Orientation. We brought in Cliff from K100 and raffled off an ipod and four tickets to Cedar Point.

During some of the presentations, we also gave away free LourdesWorld t-shirts.

Tonight is New Student Orientation for transfer students. The job of College Relations is to assist with the event and the script for the portion that takes place in the theatre.

We also just celebrated the mural designed by Sr. Jane Mary Sorosiak as part of the Capital Campaign.

Look for FREE ICE CREAM on Tuesday, August 28. It is part of Welcome Week. College Relations and the Student Alumni Association are sponsoring the ice cream. If you're looking to join a great student organization, check out the Student Alumni Association.

Also - I am the advisor for the Latino Student Union. Want to know more abut this fabulous organization, let me know.

Our Vice President for Institutional Advancement Mary Arquette (my supervisor) and the Director of Development Aileen Meyer are happy to report that Lourdes has now successfully raised $3.9 million for the capital campaign!

Our office is also excited about the Dedication of the new building and the State of the College Address scheduled for Tuesday, October 2 at 11:30 a.m. We are looking for student volunteers to help us greet the friends and donors of the campaign that day. Please let me know if you are interested in assisting.

College Relations is also preparing for a photo shoot on October 9-12. We will need students to volunteer to pose for these photos that will be taken around and inside the new buildings - McAlear and Delp Halls. Interested? We will provide book store gift certificates to the volunteers. We just need to know which day(s) and time(s) you are available.

OK, I'll end for  now.

Keep in touch.

Marketing Internship Available

Our office is working with Laura Ott, recruiter for internships at Lourdes. We are creating a third internship. We had great success with our marketing intern and web intern positions.

The new internship we are offering is also geared toward marketing. The person will be responsible for keeping all content updated on the following webpages: college relations, online newsroom, development, special events and alumni affairs. The person will also work closely with the grants department to create a web presence on lourdes.edu.

Anyone interested? If so, let me know.

Take care.

Hello from College Relations
Hello from College Relations - rated the coolest department at Lourdes!

Our department has lots of fun things that we do throughout the year. We are responsible for web content (go Liz), press releases and all other media needs (go get 'em Heather), all publications (the Carla and Carla show), and all advertising and marketing.

If you want to learn more about who and what College Relations does, visit the Online Newsroom.

Have you had a chance to check out our new ad campaign? Let me know what you think. The first 10 people that respond will receive a LourdesWorld .com t-shirt.

If you're wondering who voted us "the coolest department" - that comes from a letter we received from a grade school student. She needed to write letters to businesses and picked the pr team at Lourdes. Of course, we sent her class t-shirts, pens and some other cool stuff.

I'll end for now.

Remember to check out the new ad campaign and respond for your chance at a FREE t-shirt.
