Jan Darrington offers student perspective on Lourdes' strategic plan

Janaline Darrington, a senior in Bachelor of Individualized Studies and State of the College Address volunteer, offers her perspective of the event and Lourdes’ new strategic plan:

“As a volunteer at the State of the College Address, I could feel the excitement in the room as Dr. Helmer took to the podium to announce all the wonderful things that will take place at Lourdes College over the next seven years.

Lourdes College will have a new name and it will be Lourdes University. The College will also offer housing for students and will expand in the graduate studies program.  Now, how awesome is that!

As breakfast was served to the guests, Another student volunteer and I began to talk to a gentleman seated next to me.  She asked him his name and he said ‘Larry Ulrich.’  I was astounded!  We were so excited to talk to Mr. Ulrich in person and thank him for his generosity to the College. Then, we began to realize that so many of the guests present had also given to Lourdes and to us, as students.

I am truly thankful for the wonderful support that Lourdes College has from the community and am truly excited for the days to come!”

Lourdes College has received accreditation for its Bachelor of Science degree programs in business through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

Student body hits all time high with 5th year of record breaking enrollment

For the fifth consecutive year, Lourdes College has broken its enrollment record. Last year, Lourdes enrolled more than 2,100 students for the first time in the College’s history and this year it has exceeded that number again.

As of Tuesday, September 2, there were 2,228 students enrolled resulting in a 2.06% increase from the Fall 2007 record of 2,183. A continual growth in traditional age students has largely contributed to Lourdes’ enrollment growth over the past several semesters.

“Fall is always an exciting time of year as students return to college and this year, we are grateful to be able to welcome our largest student body ever to campus,” offers Dr. Robert C. Helmer, President. “The number of students choosing to attend Lourdes is a testament to the College’s continued dedication and focus on student success."

Engineering program offered through partnership with UDM

Lourdes College is offering a new Engineering Transfer Program through a partnership with the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM). The program allows students to take math, science and humanities classes at Lourdes then complete their designated Bachelor of Engineering degree (Civil, Electrical, Manufacturing or Mechanical) at UDM.

Students enrolled in this program will attend Lourdes College for one to two years of full-time study and will then transfer to UDM to complete their degree. The Engineering Transfer Program is open to both full and part-time students.

One of the unique components of the program is the option for full-time Lourdes pre-engineering students to take Engineering Graphics and Design (E105) and Introduction to Solid Modeling (E107) at UDM before transferring at no cost. A second benefit of the program is the completion of three cooperative work assignments, equivalent to one full year of work experience. During the cooperative assignments, students will earn money, obtain real-world experience and gain a full resume before graduating.
