Jan Darrington offers student perspective on Lourdes' strategic plan

Janaline Darrington, a senior in Bachelor of Individualized Studies and State of the College Address volunteer, offers her perspective of the event and Lourdes’ new strategic plan:
“As a volunteer at the State of the College Address, I could feel the excitement in the room as Dr. Helmer took to the podium to announce all the wonderful things that will take place at Lourdes College over the next seven years.
Lourdes College will have a new name and it will be Lourdes University. The College will also offer housing for students and will expand in the graduate studies program. Now, how awesome is that!
As breakfast was served to the guests, Another student volunteer and I began to talk to a gentleman seated next to me. She asked him his name and he said ‘Larry Ulrich.’ I was astounded! We were so excited to talk to Mr. Ulrich in person and thank him for his generosity to the College. Then, we began to realize that so many of the guests present had also given to Lourdes and to us, as students.
I am truly thankful for the wonderful support that Lourdes College has from the community and am truly excited for the days to come!”

Dolphins
It is Sunday and we went to the cathedral. We also squeezed in a dolphin cruise. We saw 12 dolphins including a mama and her little girl. It was hard to capture them on film though. We attended 4 sessions today. The first one I attended was about technology and design. It truly rejuvenated my spirit and brought back that excitement you can have to create, entertain and invoke the imagination with. That session alone made the conference for me. Saturday
Today is Saturday. We met our fellow design and marketing compatriots at a meeting at Johnson Square. There was music, magic, food, drink and icebreakers. Very fun to network. We also had some time to sightsee. We have been to Tybee Island and the beach.

We also did a power tour of the historic district. Magnificent! Faculty and Staff | pr@lourdes

UCDA Conference
Carla and I flew to Savannah today for the UCDA conference which stands for University and College Design Association. We have seen several alligators today, one actually in a pond by the airport.

The city is beautiful! Carla has been to Savannah before. This is my 1st time. How wonderful to be in such a lovely and historical city for a design conference.
