March 2008 Headlines:

LourdesALERT is coming!

This spring, Lourdes College is adding a new method to communicate with students, faculty and staff in the event of an emergency or tornado warning. When the text message is sent, it will state “LourdesALERT” followed by a specific message notification. The text messaging system is offered through Inspiron’s Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS).

WENS is a text-messaging system designed only for emergency notification purposes and is not a social networking system. It is designed to work proficiently in the event of the most extreme-case emergencies. WENS ensures a reliable method of communication at a time when it is needed most, allowing first responders and emergency personnel to focus on aiding a fully informed community.

The LourdesALERT emergency notification system is an opt-in program, meaning that in order to utilize the service, one must sign up using the online registration form. LourdesALERT will only be used to communicate emergencies of the most extreme nature.

To learn more about LourdesALERT, visit www.lourdes.edu/alert.

Admissions Ambassadors Club to help recruit students

For the past six semesters, Lourdes has seen record increases in enrollment and wants to continue its growth streak. In an effort to reach out to potential students, the College has recently formed the Admissions Ambassadors Club.

The purpose of the Admissions Ambassadors Club is to provide outreach opportunities and programs to high school students interested in attending Lourdes College. The “Ambassadors” will offer different perspectives about being students on our campus through high school visits, career days and other outreach events.

Students interested in sharing all of the wonderful things that Lourdes College has to offer must complete an application and submit it to Erin King, Admissions Ambassadors Club Advisor. All students are welcome to apply. For more information, please contact Erin at 419-824-3682 or email eking@lourdes.edu.

Nominate an outstanding Business student for the Dana Martin Award

Nominate an outstanding Business student for the Dana Martin Award
Dana Martin was a 2001 Lourdes graduate who overcame many obstacles to achieve graduation with distinction. She was selected for "Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities" and her enthusiasm echoed throughout her educational experience here at Lourdes. Dana was killed in a car accident on December 31, 2001, at the age of 39.

Each year the Department of Business awards the Dana Martin Award to an outstanding graduate who embodies her “failure is not an option” spirit and who completes a degree with distinction.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate one of this year's business graduates who is deserving of the 2008 Dana Martin Award. The following criteria must be met in order for a student to be considered:

  • BA in a degree offered by the School of Business
  • Nomination will be by a letter from a student, faculty or staff member at Lourdes College
  • Self-nomination is also allowed
